Hi, Lois. No, I haven't been to Assiniboine. It looks like a fantastic area.

Riding with a pilot named “Krash” is like eating a meal made by a chef named “Burns.”

Those views from your photos are incredible. Arriving by helicopter sounds like a Bond film. Great story, Lois!

Lois, I would have needed a lot of dramamine to survive that helicopter ride, but the destination and follow up activities would be worth it. Once again, I love the wonderful photography that highlights your fantastic travel stories. Krash and Hubs sound like good people.

It is incredible back there in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. The Rockies were our weekend playground before we moved to Texas. However, backcountry skiing is not standard fare. Unless you fly in by helicopter, it is a full two day hike or cross-country just to get to Mt. Assiniboine Lodge.

Thank you for restacking The Canadian Matterhorn, Jim. I appreciate it.

Have a fantastic week!

Beautiful! Hubs did good on planning this trip!

Hubs is always prepared. He did pull a fast one on me about the electricity and running water, though. Assiniboine is a beautiful area and there aren’t many people who go that far back into the Canadian Rockies. It is a two day hike to get there - right through some highly populated Grizzly Bear Country.

I hope you are enjoying your new mountain home. If you need any tips on snow gopher swimming or snow wallowing, let me know. I’m your lady with lots of experience!

Riveting adventure and storytelling, Lois! It makes me long for the backcountry.:)

Assiniboine awaits a visit from you and the critters, Heidi. It is beautiful in summer and winter. There are several backcountry lodges in the Rockies in Alberta and British Columbia that are easier to access than Mt. Assiniboine Lodge. If you are interested, check out Lake O’Hara Lodge near Lake Louise, Alberta.

Thank you for your kind comments, Heidi. I appreciate your feedback.

Awesome adventure!! With a pilot named Krash, what could go wrong? LOL. I'd love to experience something like that, but when you mentioned the temperatures, ah... maybe reading about it is more fun.

Cheers

Check out Mt. Assiniboine in the summer, Gonzo. It is even more spectacular. It is surrounded by several lakes that reflect the mountains and it is truly a remarkable sight. The temperatures are much more tolerable.

Thank you for restacking The Canadian Matterhorn. I really appreciate all the wonderful support you give my work.

Have a great week.

Thank you, Elizabeth. Mt. Assiniboine is stunning. It is even more spectacular in the summer, as there are several mountain lakes near it that capture the reflections of the mountains. I'm glad you enjoyed reading this post.
