Our bags are packed and we’re ready to go. BFF is flying in from Florida, I’m driving in from the Piney Woods of East Texas, and we are catching the 9:35 AM flight from Houston IAH to Leon, Mexico, tomorrow morning. Girls on Tour 2025 is destined to be a leisurely trip, as we are headed to San Miguel de Allende, a town that we both know very well.
We will be staying with friends who have a beautiful home two blocks from El Centro and within walking distance of enough shops, galleries, and restaurants to keep us happy and occupied for the week.
To maintain our designations as “Black Belt Power Shoppers”, we are required to get a ton of continuing education hours every year. We’re raring to go and knock out all our 2025 CEUs while we are in San Miguel. Of course, it’s a given, we’ll be doing some heavy-duty negotiating at the mercardo.
When I first started visiting San Miguel, twenty years ago, this was my “usual room” at a beautiful small boutique hotel. The staff at the hotel named me “La Reina Visitante” (The Visiting Queen). The owner of the hotel was “La Reina” (The Queen). These days, I stay with friends when I’m in town. More about my Mexican friends and their fabulous historic home in a future posting.
This photo is a typical street near the central area of San Miguel. Note the cobblestone road and rock sidewalks. The town dates back to the 1500s, and it holds a prominent place in the history of the Mexican Revolution.
Although the houses look unassuming, appearances can be deceiving. The thick stone/cement walls conceal large, beautifully appointed Mexican homes with lush foliage courtyards, vibrant flowers, and rooftop terraces.
We will follow this path on Thursday in a quaint village near San Miguel with some of Mexico's most breathtaking historic art. Having completed our cultural quota for the day, we’ll head to the Nirvana Resort & Spa and spend the afternoon at their terrace spa with cucumbers on our eyes and clarifying mud plastered on our faces.
Hasta luego, Amigos! I’ll be gone for a week.

Thank you so much, Gonzo! You’re the best!
