After all these years living in the USA, I still have more to learn about how the government operates in this country.
This morning, I posted a Substack article, My Story: Immigrating to the US. In that article, I stated that the United States is a Democratic Republic.
My Substack friend and fellow writer Jean-Baptiste Guillory graciously informed me the United States is not a Democratic Republic.
Since the end of WWII, the term Democratic Republic has customarily been associated with countries that are, in fact, undemocratic.
The United States is a Constitutional Republic.
Simplistically, a Constitutional Republic is “A form of government in which officials are elected by citizens to lead them as directed by their country’s constitution.”
I strive to share accurate information in my Substack, so I wanted to pass this correct information on to you, my readers. Many of you probably caught my error. Consider it proof that I am still a work in progress as I learn about how the US government functions.
I’d like to recommend Jean-Baptiste’s Substack to you.
He writes on a variety of historical topics, and the depth of research that he puts into each article is impressive.

Watch for the next posting to Expect the Unexpected as my friend Petra and I go on a road trip exploring the area surrounding Dresden, Germany.
Thank you for the honest correction! We're all a work in progress.
Thank you, you still know more than the average voter in the US.💪🙏❤
