The cultures and people are so different, and their lifestyles are diverse. You are correct in your observation, Jane. In each country the people make use of the resources they have. Some of the people I featured were farmers, many were artisans, and a couple were therapy dogs just earning their dog food.
My record shows I am subscribing to Making History Come Alive. I really enjoy reading it. Expect the Unexpected is free as well, so if you haven’t already subscribed, I invite you to sign up.
Best to you and I look forward to reading more of your fantastic work.
My favorite is Portugal. I haven’t written anything about it yet. To me, it seemed like a combination of the best of France, Italy and Spain all in one country.
My most exciting trip was to Antarctica. That truly was an adventure that was beyond my wildest dreams.
My least favorite is Russia. The people did not express any expressions on their faces in public, so the country felt oppressed. I certainly am glad I had the opportunity to go to Russia and tour the country.
That’s Sadie. She went over the Rainbow Bridge when she was 19. She was a great dog. When she got her head stuck in the Milk Bone box she was completely embarrassed because she was one of those dogs that rarely ever misbehaved. She was much loved by many people and animals during her lifetime.
Thanks for commenting, Parker. And thank you for reading Expect the Unexpected.
Lois, I don't know if you noticed, but there are a couple of dog pictures which snuck into your travel portraits - being between dogs at the moment, I can help you excise them.
Between dogs? A dog person needs a good dog. Regardless of where you live, I highly recommend you adopt a precious hound from my friend Dawn at Rufus Rescue in Madisonville, Texas. Dawn has a small shelter for rescued dogs and cats. Most of the Rufus Rescue Dogs are in foster homes waiting for their “forever families” to find them and take them home. Dawn will match you with the best K9 for you. Give her a call, and y’all come on down to Texas and visit us.
Lois, I just love, and look forward to, your wonderful posts. I especially love this one with the elegant portraits of beautiful people from around the world. I was also hysterical at the picture of the dog with his head firmly in the milk bone box. I called my wife to look and we both howled.
The poem at the end is also very warm and a perfect tribute to the people you so lovingly captured. Bravo and thank you.
Thanks Sandy, I appreciate your feedback. That is my dog, Sadie. She got her head stuck in the Milkbone box when she was trying to sneak a treat. She was sooooo embarrassed when we took the box off her head! She knew she was busted for bad dog etiquette.
Sadie was such a good dog, it was way out of character for her to “break the rules.” I love that picture because it is so funny!
So impressive, how everyone in the world,is doing the best with what's available to them.

Beautiful photos of people, Lois. Of all the countries you've visited, do you have a favorite?

Awesome! Thanks for your synopsis. I hope Russia will one day be a place where more people will spontaneously smile and laugh.
Agree! Loved Portugal and its people and found the Russian people generally unhappy.
A wonderful collection of snaps, Lois - thanks for sharing them!
Thank you, Stone. I appreciate your comments and I really appreciate you restacking my post. Best to you. L
These are all wonderful photos but my vote goes to the Milkbone dog. Haha. Thank you for sharing.

I’m sorry for your loss but I’m very happy she had a great life. A dog’s love is hard to beat.

Lol! That’s my quirky sense of humor, Bill.

Beautiful examples of this old world!
Thank you so much, JoL. I know a man from East Texas whose photo would make a great addition to my People of the World file.
Best to you in the mountains!
Great review in photos, Lois. You caught so much w. the lens.
Thank you Jeanine. I sure wish I had my old Blackberry phone. It took the some of the best photos I have. Hard to believe, but true.

Aw, I love Sadie. What a terrific picture and story behind it.
Wow! Their faces say a lot.
