Fascinating! Thanks for the first-hand account of the Kayan people and the great photos, too. It's interesting to note that neck rings are also used in parts of Africa, although the tradition there probably has other origins.

It is my understanding the African tribes that wear neck rings are also part of the greater Kayan tribe. Thanks for the additional info, Renato.

A fascinating place! It's wonderful you had an opportunity to visit the Kayan Villages. I like the best practices you mentioned at the end. I think anyone can apply them when they encounter people from a different culture.

Being a "Survivor" takes on a whole new meaning singing "Eye of the Tige" to keep the animals away! Or maybe it was the off key? I have often wondered about the customs around the neck rings. Thanks for explaining it all so well and your talking about it so practically regarding the Thai laws was sad and timely. Especially here in the US where the immigration issue is front and center. Always a pleasure.

For certain it has to be “off-key”, otherwise it doesn’t work. When you’re messing with tigers you want to make sure you have it right the first time because you might not have a second chance!

Wonderful! My goal is always to provide new information in an entertaining way. The Kayan Women were fascinating, and their strength was inspirational.

Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I had heard of these women but knew little about them, until now. Just as an aside, I loved M.A.S.H 🤣💜
