That is so, so cool. Pity you can't use your monkey foot power more often.

That was the only time I’ve ever had my monkey feet. They were awesome. It was the strangest thing - I almost felt like I could hang upside down from a tree limb hanging on with my toes. Lol!

I’m back to having the ordinary paws of a “woman of a certain age.”

Thanks so much, Lois! Times change. A lake house with armadillos still sounds pretty nice.

Your adventures sound like so much fun, Lois!

They were. These days, I’m sitting in my sunroom at my lakehouse, writing about them. My new adventure is talking to the deer and armadillos in my yard. Blessings to you, Rod! I always look forward to reading your substack.

So beautiful memories came to my mind when I read your article, it was definitly a great adventur but the most fabulous thing were you and your brave spirit. It has been a real pleasure to be your Mexican Tourist Guide, driver and friend.

What other places that we’ve been would you like me to write about?

Another adventure? Wow, can't keep you nailed down. The area is lovely from the photos. I bet it smells amazing in the early morning, although it may not be so fun when it gets dark. Those foot prints 'n such.

After dark I was safely inside my hotel room on the other side of the Bigfoot Stepping Stones.

It was lovely and truly beyond description.

Thanks for the reminder, Lois, that I want to see the Edward James gardens! They look surreal -- love the history of them, and the photos. Now I have to make sure to get there eventually!!

Check out all the photos on the internet. It is unbelievable. There is a lot more to see in the gardens and you could easily spend two days there.

When you go, I recommend having Efrain’s company take you. There is so much to see along the way that you will miss out on a lot of fascinating history and landmarks if you don’t have a guide.

Be careful of Bigfoot! Lol!

Friends have been and I have seen and read about him and the gardens. Mexico never fails to amaze, great post, Lois.

Oops! I forgot you live in Mexico. No doubt you will have everything researched before you go. I'm sure your friends will give you lots of ideas as well. Have fun! :)

Xilitla was different, that’s for sure.

Sure sounds like it! You’ll have to return some day and solve the mystery of your bravery. Were there varmints or bandits in them there hills?

I’ll ask Ephrain. You don’t think it was because of Bigfoot?

Nah, he moved to Hollywood to make beef jerky commercials.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip with you --it's the only way I will ever be able to visit those fabulous places. Your humor is priceless and only made our trip even more enjoyable. Thank you!

I’m happy you enjoyed it. Xilitla is off the beaten track, so it was my pleasure to take you there. It doesn’t get a lot of the regular tourist traffic because of its location.

Awesome!!! San Miguel Allende is on our shortlist to visit next winter! Not sure if we will have your adventurous spirit to get so high up in the mountains!

Expand full comment

David, for sure go to San Miguel de Allende. It is my Mexican home away from home. I highly recommend contacting Efrain’s company for your airport transportation, as you will either fly into Queretaro or Leon - San Miguel doesn’t have an airport. If you contact Efrain in advance he can help you select your hotel and his company does private tours that are awesome and very personalized.

Not to worry about getting to the mountains. You can visit San Miguel 20 times before you see all the sights right around there.
